Cleaning up your toys

A common issue seen in the wild is removable clutter on PCs.

I’m not talking about temp files, browser cache, etc.

I’m talking about something that requires us, the users, to directly maintain, and it requires no additional software tools.
In fact, it’s all about removing your old unused software.

If you’ve installed a program on your PC for a temporary project, remove it after you’re down.
If you’ve purchased a new printer or camera, remove the old drivers and software.

It’s very easy to let these things add up and unfortunately  it adds a LOT of clutter over a short period of time.

I suggest going into your Add/Remove control panel under XP, or Programs and Features under Vista/Win7 and going through the list.
If you’re unsure of what it is, leave it alone.
If it’s something you added yourself, manually, and you are 110% sure you don’t need it, then kill it off.
The trick here is not to remove anything that may break another program.

You may see many items from Microsoft that seem to say the same thing, but odds are they are critical to a lot of your programs to work properly, and are best left alone.
